MUGSY

Where are you from?

Sydney Australia

When did you start?

I found hip-hop in 05, think I was in year 8 at the time.
Use to drop down small rhymes every now and then in my work book and not focus on study but I knew if I wanted to pursue it I had to write full songs.
When I got myself an ipod the first hip-hop I came in-contact with was gangsta rap, artists such as Tupac, NWA, 50 Cent etc etc.
I wanted to walk in their footsteps.
Sadly looking back on it laughing, I use to rock the baseball cap, du-rag, basketball jersey, 3 chains full "wiggered" out & go outside like that. (*laughs) Just because I was so obsessed with that vibe of attitude, doing my own thing, not givin a f***.
My first album (Ride Or Die) was a 15 track album I recorded with a producer named "Glenn Schollum" who owned Schollum City Records in Sydney.
It was roughly a 2 year process of recording, producing, mixing, mastering. It released in 2011.
As I started to get more involved with the hip-hop culture & seeing different avenues I've been very embarrased about my first album & always look back thinking
"Why did I release that ?" I can't even get myself to put it on anymore knowing that was my first upbringing in hip hop.
2013 I was performing at a Youth Centre gig & met a local producer named "Pablo Gutierrez" he enjoyed my performance & wanted to make some music with me at his home recording studio.
The same year I gave him a call & together we recorded my second album (Understand Me) which has 20 tracks on it.
I respect my second album more because it explains my life through depression, what I see in everyday life & my aspects on it & just my voice in hip hop.
Understand Me has been getting alot of exposure around the globe with radio so I will be definently hittin up Pablo again for a 3rd release.

Who are your influences?

50 Cent
Tupac Shakur
DMX
NaS
Eminem

Who are you listening to now?

Been listening to alot of Method Man & Redman, Chamillionaire, Joe Budden, Mc Eiht, Snoop Dogg's (Doggystyle) Album, Talib Kweli
The Fugees's song Killing Me Softly
thats just to name a few
Most of them are always on repeat with my ipod.

Who would you like to work with?

50 Cent or Eminem without a doubt.

Describe your style.

My style is a bit of everything.
But mostly my aspect on everyday life, with things that people turn a blind eye too.
Some say I have alot of hate but thats where hip hop gives me a voice to say it.
You just have to hear for yourself.

What Makes You Authentic?

I think my Authenticness (*laughs) is the same answer as my style.
BUT I see that everyone likes to follow trends and is affraid to be themselves because of what people might think of them stepping out of that vibe.
With me I dont give a f***. Hip-Hop is my Authenticness. I dont follow no one like a sheep I be my own man.
When it comes to music I love to get intouch with any music head of any genre & make a connection with them.
I dont understand some music heads how they push other ones away if their music aint up to speed to me that s*** is just wack and doesnt help anyone but crushes the other person's dream/strive to make it.
So yes I'm very open to other inspiring artists/musicians when it comes to music.
But hip-hop is my Authentic as it saved my life.
